About Style Falcon

Style Falcon sewing patterns are thoughtfully designed for women of menopause age and beyond, enabling them to create a handmade wardrobe that fits their bodies and their lives, without the hassle of adapting patterns designed for much younger bodies.

Unlike most sewing patterns, Style Falcon patterns are drafted for a mature figure - not a youthful hourglass figure. That means:

  • Little bust-to-waist definition

  • Lower bust points, for a “C” to “D” cup

  • More room at the tummy, hip and sleeve bicep

  • Center-back seams, with rounded back and forward shoulder shaping

  • For people about 5’4” (about 163 cm)

See the sizing chart for a list of body measurements and finished measurements for this pattern.

About the Positive Space Jacket

The answer to “I have nothing to wear” for a fancy evening out or a big day at the office. The neckline, raglan sleeve and front shaping frame your face beautifully. The statement collar is your canvas for quilting or embroidery fabulousness. Bracelet-length sleeves show off a watch or bangle. A special button makes the perfect closure. Plus pockets? Of course!

For warm-weather wear, choose the collarless, unlined version. For light outerwear or for a dressier project, try the lined collared version. Make the collar out of the same fabric or go lighter or heavier. Or make the jacket out of a plain fabric and splurge for a collar out of pretty but expensive fabric - the collar only takes half a yard or meter.

Fabric Choices

The Positive Space Jacket works with woven fabrics that have a stiffer or crisper hand, such as brocades, damasks and satins, silk dupion, shantung or linen. It also works well with lighter upholstery fabrics or wool suitings with a firm hand. For outerwear fabrics, such as wool coatings or tapestries, size up.

Fabric yardage charts and layouts are provided for narrower as well as wider fabrics to accommodate some special occasion widths. See the materials chart for a list of everything sewers need to get started.

Sewing Experience

The lined Positive Space Jacket is suitable for intermediate or expert sewers. The unlined jacket is suitable for sewers of any experience.

Pattern and Instructions Formats

The Positive Space Jacket pattern comes in two layered .pdf formats - A0 and Letter. The A0 file is three sheets of paper; the third sheet is for the lining pieces. The Letter format is on 55 pages for the lined jacket, 39 pages for the unlined jacket.

Instructions are offered in standard print and large-print formats for accessibility. All measurements are provided in Imperial and metric units. The pattern and its instructions are in English.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is delivery my only option?

While we are in the process of building a network of local pickup partners, local delivery is free! Delivery eligible zip codes are: 53527, 53532, 53596, 53597, 53590, 53703, 53704, 53706, 53711, 53713, 53714, 53715, 53716, 53718, 53726. Because this service will eventually be housed within our brick and mortar, we are not offering shipping, and don't plan to in the future.

How quickly will I receive my order?

I know I use the word "we" a lot, but currently its just me, Amy, over here! I can't promise any less than a 48 hour delivery window but I'll always try to get orders out as quickly as possible - I know you want to get sewing asap! Pro tip: I know weekends are a common time to work on projects so if you order by 10am on Friday, you'll likely have your patterns by Saturday am!

What kind of paper are the patterns printed on?

We print your patterns on 20# (copy paper weight) 36x48 white paper sheets, then roll them instead of folding it so that there aren't any creases!

What if there's something wrong with my order?

We will always check the scale of the printed pattern using a ruler against the provided scale square.

If you receive a printed pattern from us that has been printed at the incorrect scale, please reach out and we will remedy that asap!

We are not responsible for any errors within the pattern itself.

What is your cancellation and returns policy?

Your order cannot be cancelled or refunded once we begin fulfilling it. If you need to cancel your order immediately after placing it, please reach out via our contact form asap! Your card is charged once we drop the order off at a pickup location because that is when we consider the order fulfilled.

What do you do with the PDF files after they are printed?

Files will be deleted after your order has been fulfilled, usually in about one week. Because we are not the owner or copyright holder of the file, we won't ever use it for anything else or keep it on our devices any longer than necessary!

Where are my patterns being printed?

They are printed on my large format printer right here in Madison, Wisconsin! Once the brick and mortar shop is open, you'll be able to have your patterns printed while you shop. For now, we are partnering with local businesses to provide pickup locations.
