Sewing Pattern PDF Printing FAQs

Sewing Pattern PDF Printing FAQs

Did you know? You don't have to print out and tape together 67 pieces of copy paper before your sewing project can even begin! Many fabric businesses, including Goldenrod Craft Co, now offer pdf sewing pattern printing! Goldenrod Craft Co is local to the Madison, Wisconsin area and offers large format pdf sewing pattern printing with local pickup and delivery.

Here are some questions we receive frequently.

Why don't pattern designers all just offer printed patterns?

While modern software and additional education options has made it easier for indie pattern designers to grace the world with their gorgeous patterns, it's still very complicated and cost prohibitive for most of them to access traditional pattern printing.

Additionally, offering printed patterns would lead to more paper waste. With pdf patterns, you can choose what you want printed.

PDF only patterns also offer that instant gratification that many of us appreciate!

What kinds of patterns do you print?

We print apparel sewing patterns that are in PDF format on A0 (~33"x46") sheets of paper.  Most quilt patterns and foundation piecing patterns only require 8.5x11 individual sheets.  (We have seen some foundation piecing patterns that need to be scaled up to larger sheets. That said, the sheer number of pages needed for an entire quilt is often cost prohibitive for that use case.)

What kind of paper do you print on?

We use a non-translucent 20# bond, which is the same weight as standard copy paper.  (In the future we would love to add a more translucent vellum type paper but this type of paper is more expensive.)  Traditional pattern tissue is too thin to print on the large format printer we use - it has to be printed using very large and specialized industrial offset printers.

Can you print just certain pages?

Yes!  Enter the pages you'd like printed in the notes section that appears after you upload your file.

Can you print just certain sizes?

Yes, if the pdf file is a layered file, we have access to Adobe Acrobat and can print the sizes you request. We do recommend choosing more than one size in case you need to make adjustments.

How much does printing cost?

We charge $4.75 per A0 sheet. Most patterns are 2-3 A0 sheets. If you are getting 10 or more pages printed, we do offer a 20% volume discount. Enter code VOLUME at checkout!

Do you ship?

No, we are a local only service. We offer local delivery to select zip codes, and pattern pickup at Blue Bar Quilts in Middleton, Wisconsin.
