Women's Sizes XS-3XL; Men's Sizes SM-3XL

Folkwear offers sewing patterns for three Victorian Vests for women and two for men in this pattern.

In Victorian times, gentlemen were not considered properly dressed without a jacket, vest (or waistcoat), and tie. Indeed, even smart Victorian women donned fitted vests for street wear, with walking skirts and long jackets. Today, the vest is still an integral part of business attire and fashion for men and women.

Views A and B are originally men's vests, now sized also for women. View C is a closely fitted women's vest. All three are fully lined; the backs are cut from lining fabric for comfort and to reduce bulk.

View A is a simple, collarless V-neck vest with four welt pockets and adjustable back waist belt. Center front is pointed at the bottom and rises to high hip length at sided and back.

View B is bias-cut for a decorative fabric treatment, featured a shawl collar, and ends above the hipbones with a shallow point in front. Like View A, a back waist belt adjusts the fit.

View C is shorter, extending just to the waist. Four front darts fit the vest snugly to the bust. A small notched collar plunges into the double-breasted front, which closes with two rows of buttons. Traditional Bow Tie (with instructions for tying) are also included.

Suggested fabrics: Medium to heavyweight fabrics of cotton, silk, wool, linen, synthetics or blends with or without nap, such as brocade, velvet, corduroy, canvas, pique, velveteen, or synthetic suede. The bias cut of the shawl-collar vest is especially suitable for stripes or plaids.

How quickly will I receive my order?

I know I use the word "we" a lot, but currently its just me, Amy, over here! I can't promise any less than a 48 hour delivery window but I'll always try to get orders out as quickly as possible - I know you want to get sewing asap! Pro tip: I know weekends are a common time to work on projects so if you order by 10am on Friday, you'll likely have your patterns by Saturday am!

What kind of paper are the patterns printed on?

We print your patterns on 20# (copy paper weight) 36x48 white paper sheets, then roll them instead of folding it so that there aren't any creases!

What if there's something wrong with my order?

We will always check the scale of the printed pattern using a ruler against the provided scale square.

If you receive a printed pattern from us that has been printed at the incorrect scale, please reach out and we will remedy that asap!

We are not responsible for any errors within the pattern itself.

What is your cancellation and returns policy?

Your order cannot be cancelled or refunded once we begin fulfilling it. If you need to cancel your order immediately after placing it, please reach out via our contact form asap! Your card is charged once we drop the order off at a pickup location because that is when we consider the order fulfilled.

What do you do with the PDF files after they are printed?

Files will be deleted after your order has been fulfilled, usually in about one week. Because we are not the owner or copyright holder of the file, we won't ever use it for anything else or keep it on our devices any longer than necessary!

Where are my patterns being printed?

They are printed on my large format printer right here in Madison, Wisconsin! Once the brick and mortar shop is open, you'll be able to have your patterns printed while you shop. For now, we are partnering with local businesses to provide pickup locations.
